APC UPS - v 8.0.0
Extra Vegetables' Control4 driver for the APC (American Power Conversion) range of UPS enables a Control4 system both to control the operation of the UPS and to receive feedback from it.
This is an invaluable tool on any customer's site as it allows the Control4 system to monitor the health of the power at the property and to react accordingly. Should a problem occur with the power the dealer can be informed of the problem and, if an IP power switch, is installed it is possible to provide a controlled shut down and power save sequence for the property. Dealers can also remotely interrogate the UPS to analyze the current power conditions through Remote Director.
This is the driver for the SmartUPS range of UPSs without controlled power outlets. This driver provides feedback and event handling from the UPS together with the ability to query the UPS for information.
NOTE: APC are changing the language used by their UPSs for communication and are not releasing details of it to anyone! Please check to see if your UPS uses the Micro Link protocol. If so DO NOT BUY THIS DRIVER as it will not work with your UPS.

Microlink Not Supported
Many APC UPS are now shipped with the Microlink protocol - these are NOT compatible with the driver.
The Extra Vegetables Control4 driver for SmartUPS range UPS from APC implements the following features:
Reliable two-way serial control.
The UPS is connected to the Control4 system via the special serial cable you will find included with your UPS. Don't throw it away as it is special - no other cable will work!
Allows Basic Control of the UPS .
You can initialize the UPS and you can also cause it to undertake a self test.
Can interrogate the UPS for status
Both directly in Composer and through dealer programming you can initiate of query the following:
- Display Time of Shutdown
- Display Time of Line Restored
- Display Time of Line Failure
- Display cause of transfer
- Display Internal Temperature
- Display Power Load
- Display Battery Level
- Display Minimum Input Line Voltage
- Display Maximum Input Line Voltage
- Display Input Voltage
- Display Output Voltage
Receive notifications from the UPS.
The UPS will send Control4 notifications on the following events:
- UPS Line Fail (i.e. switching to battery)
- UPS Line Restored (i.e. returning to mains power)
- UPS Die (out of battery and shutting down)
These events can then be used in dealer programming to perform a controlled shutdown of the system (using and IP power switch) or to send your customer or yourselves and email warning of the power condition.
Switch any of the four power outlet banks on the S20
You can use Control4 to switch any of the outlet banks on the APC S20 Power Conditioner with battery backup. This allows you to remotely reboot any device connected to these outlets by using the 'Remote Director' function in Composer. You can also use this functionality to switch off devices connected to these outlets to conserve power in the case of the system switching to battery power. Please note the APC S20 is a 110v device and is not available in Europe.
This driver is an independent commercial release by Extra Vegetables Ltd. It is not authorized or supported either by Control4 or APC. Extra Vegetables fully support the driver through its authorized dealer network.
